This is a combover cake. I came up with the idea right after we bought the OverTheHill.com name. I think it would apply to almost any over the hill birthday party as a 40th birthday cake or 50th birthday cake, especially if your friend can't let go of his last few strands of hair.
This cake requires:
A Round Cake Pan
Cake Mix (eggs, oil, water, whatever the label calls for)
White Frosting (one jar)
Thin licorice (use black if you can, I could only find red)
Two brown M&M's
One marshmallow
One tube of black frosting
One jar of brown frosting coloring, or brown food coloring
Bake the cake. Let it cool and then decorate it like the picture. Here are some tips:
Lay out the entire design on a piece of paper beforehand.
When frosting the cake, keep a glass of hot water handy. Rinse your spatulat or knife in it before smoothing the frosting.
The ears and eyeballs should be at the same level.
The nose should be just about in the center of the circle.
To get the licorice in the combover to look particularly stringy I rolled it between my hand and the counter.
